Troop 479 FAQ

1. What day of the week do you meet for Troop Meetings?

Monday from 7 to 8 pm.

2. How often do you go on camping outings?
Once a month.

3. How many times a month do you meet?
We have four meetings a month. Two are full troop meetings, one is a patrol meeting and one is a meeting for scouts with leadership roles.

4. What summer camp do you attend?
We attend Many Point Scout Camp in Ponsford, MN.

5. What high adventure trips do you take?
We take one every summer to either Philmont or Sea Base.

6.  How expensive is scouting?
The annual registration fee to be a scout is $75 dollars. The Average outing costs about $35 not including activity costs. Scouting is very affordable.

7.  Who plans the outings?
The scouts get to choose and plan all the outings. Adults help with booking and payment.

8.  How does advancement work?  
Advancement is similar to Cub Scouts as they are based off requirements. The higher the rank the more difficult the requirements get.

9.  What if my child has other activities?
There is no attendance requirement. Scouts is very flexible.

10.  How involved do the parents need to be?
Parents can help on outings as well as leadership roles for example treasurer or webmaster to help the troop run smoothly behind the scenes.

11.  How old must a kid be to join scouts?
Kids can join Scouts BSA if they are at least 10 years old and are currently in the fifth grade, OR have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, OR are age 11 but have not reached age 18.
