A Walking Tour That Includes The Saint John's Bible Gallery and the Abbey Church

Wednesday, May 31, departing Pax Christi 8:00am and returning at 4:00pm, $30

We’ve had the beautiful Gospels and Acts Volume of the Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible here with us since November. Now come and see the original at St. John’s Abbey!

The Saint John's Bible is the first handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey in more than 500 years. Made with vellum using hand-mixed ink and quill pens, it took 11 years to complete. A team of 23 artists and six scribes who wrote the text of the Bible were led by artistic director, Donald Jackson. The Bible contains 160 illuminations throughout its seven volumes.

St. John’s University and Abbey stated that, "At the onset of a new millennium, Saint John's University and the monks of Saint John's Abbey sought to ignite the spiritual imagination of people throughout the world by commissioning a work of art that illuminates the world today."

Some of the pages of The Saint John’s Bible are on display in a special gallery on the campus of St. John’s University and Abbey. We will take a motor coach to St. John’s to view the gallery, have lunch, and enjoy a tour with one of the monks of the famous Abbey Church designed by architect Marcel Breuer.

Please note: the registration fee includes the bus, gallery, lunch and tour. Scholarships are available upon request. Registration closes on Monday, May 15 and spaces are limited so register today!

Please call the parish office at 952-941-3150 if you have any questions.
