HOW GREEN IS YOUR THUMB?

One of the goals of the Arts, Campus & Gardens Council this year was to implement an improved plan for the care and maintenance of the garden areas we have here at Pax Christi. We have engaged the assistance of several master Gardeners to oversee, guide and educate our volunteers. Next was to determine who would be willing to work in our gardens. We obtained a list of many volunteers who are included in all communication about the gardens and created a distribution list on Flocknote titled Adopt A Garden to include all of the email address of those who have expressed interest. Work then began this Spring. Much of the focus of the work was initially in the Welcome garden which is the three garden areas near the main entrance (door 3). Next was to focus on the very overgrown butterfly garden on the West side of the church which faces the pond. Work was also done in the Herb garden on the East side of the church near door 4. Most recently, we have focused on the St. Francis Shrine area. We have had a group of several dedicated volunteers who have put in many hours of work so far is summer and if you look around these garden areas, I think you will be able to see the improvements. We have done most of our work on Thursday evenings but all are welcome to come at any time to help

out. Maintenance of the gardens is needed throughout the growing season and we can always use more volunteers to help, so if you think you might be able to lend a hand in our gardens and are not already on the Adopt A Garden list, please let Ken Reineccius know at kreineccius@paxchristi.com and he will add you to the Adopt-A-Garden Flocknote email distribution list so you will be included in all communications about our gardens.
