Small Sums
Small Sums makes it possible for workers who are currently homeless to say “Yes” to a job!  Most of the people we work with have had solid work histories until life circumstances cause a separation from their job.  With unemployment exhausted, they become homeless because they do not have family who are able to help them financially.  Acting as their family, Pax Christi’s supportive relationship with Small Sums  has provided bus cards, work clothes and tools to sixty-six workers, helping them to move from the streets and shelters to self-sufficiency!

We have found that the simplest solution is often overlooked.  At Small Sums, we have found that going shopping with clients for that needed work uniform or new boots, and by often providing bus cards, people area able to go happily back to work. Within a short time, they are once again paying rent and supporting their families! As one 12 year old girl said, “I’m not afraid anymore; life is back to normal. I’m happy!”

Three current ways to volunteer: First, we always need office volunteers – send mailings, grant writing, filing, and media tasks. Second, we need volunteers for our annual gala and other events. Third, we always need donations of gently used work attire to our clothing provider Ready for Success.
