*Pax Christi Justice Grant Recipient for 2008 in the amount of $40,000
What is Risen Christ Catholic School?
RISEN CHRIST CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL was established in 1993 and has become the pre-eminent inner-city Catholic educator in south Minneapolis. Risen Christ is not your typical Catholic elementary school, and yet it is profoundly Catholic. It provides the opportunity to practice the principles of Catholic social justice teaching that mark us as a people of faith in this world. Educating the low-income (82%) and immigrant student in our community is both essential and challenging. The realities of their lives and neighborhoods (gangs, poverty, violence, language barriers, racism, family illiteracy, etc.) often mean they come to school unequipped to be successful in academics or society, yet their intelligence, resiliency, and determination are awe inspiring.
We live our motto, "Preparing children for success in work and in life" by providing the children we serve with a safe, academically challenging and faith-filled environment for learning.

*What is a Justice Grant Recipient? Since Pax Christi Catholic Community was founded just over 25 years ago, the community has set aside a portion of its weekly Sunday collection, which now stands at 10%. These funds support works of mercy and justice in the wider Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and beyond. The majority of the Justice Tithe is distributed through the Pax Christi Justice Grants Program. $2 million in grants have been made to nonprofit organizations since 1995. All Justice Grants are made for purposes that reflect Roman Catholic social teaching and moral standards.
