MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH

PaxConnex

Grades 7–8

Session Times: Sundays 6:30pm or Wednesdays, 4:30pm

The 7th & 8th Grade Faith Formation program has been named PaxConnex to reflect the spirit of Pax Christi and the connection of our youth to our faith community.  The Faith Formation team strives for a program that truly reflects the Mission, Vision and Values of the Pax Christi Community.

PaxConnex is a bridge between the Finding God/Good Shepherd programs and the High School Faith Interest Connectors program. Equal emphasis on the three movements of faith formation: Head (Knowledge), Heart (Passions), and Hands (Service and Justice) will be the catalyst for increasing our youth’s knowledge in an engaging and meaningful way which will strengthen their relationship with the Church.

The HEAD component focuses on increasing knowledge of our Catholic faith and will follow a traditional faith formation classroom learning format. Seventh and eighth graders will gain a deeper understanding of Scripture, Creed, Sacraments, Prayer, Social Justice, and Catholic Morality.

The HEART component has been modeled after Pax Christi’s successful Faith Interest Connectors program for our high school youth.  In this section, youth will partake in experiences that will connect them with parishioners and learn how our faith can be applied in their daily lives.

In the HANDS component, youth will integrate their knowledge learned into action throughout the community by participating in service projects in our faith community and in the community at large, and then discussing the relationship between service and faith.

Every class session will be designed to be engaging, interactive, and challenging. Youth will be encouraged to apply what they learn to their daily lives and will discuss how their faith is being lived out. Youth are encouraged to participate in weekly liturgies, service opportunities, and retreat experiences offered throughout the year.

JUST5DAYS 2017

For youth entering grades 7th-9th & adult chaperones

June 19th–23rd in Appleton, Wisconsin

Join your Pax Christi friends for a Hands-On Catholic Youth Mission Trip! JUST5DAYS is a week-long mission experience of hands-on service, faith learning, prayer, community building and summer fun.  We will be headed to Appleton, Wisconsin June 19th-23rd for a fantastic week full of:

Faith is the heart of JUST5DAYS. This year's theme - Saints Among Us! Young World Changers - focuses on the example of the Saints and their service to others. This summer, youth will discover how Pope Francis challenges everyone to the vocation of becoming like the Saints.

Service during JUST5DAYS has youth engaging in direct, hands-on work that meets real needs of people in the local community. Service sites include working with the elderly, people with disabilities, families living in low income housing, community soup kitchens, and assisting various nonprofit charitable organizations.

Prayer begins and ends each day of JUST5DAYS. Youth are encouraged to lead and participate in communal prayers by proclaiming the Scriptures and sharing their voices in song. Our week of service culminates with a celebration of the Liturgy of the Eucharist on Friday.

Community building during JUST5DAYS is fostered through high-energy activities, group projects and games. By their direct service, youth gain a better understanding of community by working across socioeconomic and cultural diversities.

Catholic is who we are! JUST5DAYS draws directly from the teachings of our faith, Scriptures, the words of Pope Francis, and the many saintly and holy men and women who have heard the call to follow Jesus and serve with love.

The cost is $400.00 for the week, plus transportation. Lodging, meals, and a t-shirt are included. CLICK HERE to register online.
