PLEASE NOTE: Easter Sunrise Mass at 6:45 am will be held at Pax Christi instead of Staring Lake due to the tremendous amount of ice and snow that has accumulated. Although this is disappointing, we believe the safety of all people must be considered. It is extremely slippery (one of our staff members fell going out there to check it out) and because the Mass would begin in darkness it is too much of a risk for injury. We look forward to celebrating Sunrise Mass at the church.
2008 Lenten Worship Schedule at Pax Christi
Lent prepares us to celebrate the Paschal Mystery: the dying and rising of Jesus. The whole thrust of Lent is to lead us into this mystery. Christ's pascha, or Passover from death to life, is offered to us, so that we too may experience a "passing over". Our passage is from sin to the new life of grace. Permeating our forty days of Lent is a spirituality of fasting. This "fast" can include acts of self-sacrifice for others, exercising spiritual discipline, and refraining from activities so as to make room for prayer and works of charity. The practice of prayer and almsgiving is also part of Lenten spirituality. Keeping the disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving throughout the forty days weaves a significant part of the fabric of the Lenten season.
LENTEN REGULATIONS The Season of Lent preserves its penitential character. The days of penance are Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent. The manner of fulfilling the precept of penance: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence only.
The law of fast (only one full meal each day, nothing between meals) obliges those who have completed their eighteenth year until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.
The law of abstinence (not eating meat) obliges those who have completed their fourteenth year.
Proportionately grave inconvenience excuses us from the laws of fast and abstinence.
