Youth Room at Pax Christi by Cindy, 9/9/07

Do you know where our youth room is at Pax Christi?  Did you even know we had a youth room?

Well, we do!  And it’s an awesome space for all the Jr. and Sr. High youth here at Pax.  Whenever we show visitors from other parishes our youth space, they always comment that they wish they had a similar place for their youth.

About a year ago, we expanded our youth space and moved from the Lighthouse into the Garden Level.  To get to it, you can take the elevator in the hall between Doors 1 and 2 (at the front of the building) or take the stairs near Door 1.

Our youth room is a huge space, good for a variety of uses.  We have an area used for meetings (both youth and adult leaders use this area) that can be set up in different ways depending on our activities.  There’s a game area that holds our pool tables, foosball table, and air hockey table.  Plans to add a ping pong table and electronic dart board to this area have been made.  Adjacent to the games is a comfortable “conversation” area with sofas and easy chairs.  There’s also a large dining room table and other small tables where we can play any of our various board games stored in the game cabinet.  We have pictionary, monopoly, sorry, scattegories, catch-phrase, and many others along with card games such as uno, skip-bo, and regular cards.  Coming soon to our youth room will be a popcorn machine, so free snacks will always be available to youth stopping by.

During the school year, we will have Sr. High “open youth room” twice a month (on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays) from 8-9pm.  Bring a friend or come alone.  Stay for the whole time, or just drop in for a visit.  Play a game, listen to music, watch a movie, or even work on homework in a different environment.  If there is enough interest, we can expand the hours of open youth room.  Occasionally, we will also include open youth room following a service activity.

We want to welcome all the Jr. and Sr. High youth to our youth room.  Enjoy this space and feel at home at Pax Christi.

What I did on my Summer Vacation (Part I)  by Cindy
I had a very educational experience in New Orleans, LA.  I learned about Random Rabbit, Awkward Turtle, and talking llamas.  I was guided around the city by a very nice Australian gentleman named Lee.  It was fun meeting people from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and an exotic location called Edina.  I found out that cheese placed on a sandwich will melt even if it’s in a cooler, paying tolls for other people causes bewilderment, monsignors can be funny, mardi gras beads are PRETTY, and hug chug games are dangerous.  But most importantly, I learned the Cupid Shuffle.  And now you can too.
