2011-2012 Confirmation Class Schedule Student and Sponsor sessions

It is another step in the life long process of journeying with one another toward God. Youth in the 10th grade and older are invited to prepare for this sacrament at Pax Christi, along with the support of their family and a sponsor. Because confirmation is not “graduation” or completion of faith formation, all students are expected to be involved in on-going faith formation, in addition to these immediate preparation sessions. Students may choose to register for Sunday or Wednesday evening formation sessions.
Along with regular weekly participation in the high school faith formation program, students desiring the sacrament of confirmation, along with their sponsor and/or parent, will be asked to attend seven preparation sessions held on the dates listed above.
Confirmation candidates are expected to complete a minimum of three service projects during the year and write a reflection on these experiences. One service project from each of the following categories must be included:
• A service experience within the parish community or completed with parish members and/or organized through the parish (i.e. Pax Halloween Party, Holiday Tea and Boutique, service project with the Sr. High youth, etc.)
• A service experience in our local community (i.e. the southwest metro area; examples may be helping a neighbor, visiting a local Seniors’ residence, working at PROP, etc.)
• A service experience outside our community, perhaps in the greater metro area, and/or having state, national, or global impact (i.e. participating in a rally for Life at the state capitol, going on a mission trip, serving at a homeless shelter downtown, etc.)
In addition, one service experience should be completed with the candidate’s sponsor. If sponsors are unavailable because of distance, etc., a parent or another adult mentor should do the service with the candidate.
Guidelines for the reflections will be handed out at the first Student/Sponsor session and will be posted on the website. Service reflections should be turned in to the Confirmation Coordinator by the April 15 Student/Sponsor session.
Each candidate for Confirmation is asked to pick a saint’s name as their Confirmation name which will be used during the anointing at the Confirmation Mass. Click here to view a document written by Archbishop Nienstadt explaining this practice, along with a list of saints’ names. More information will be given at our first Confirmation session in October, or contact the parish office, 952-941-3150, with questions.
Students are expected to participate in a retreat. Retreat options to be announced soon!
